Can you clarify your analysis of what was happening with Stones, Grealish and Phillips. Do you think they were next in line after Saka? Was Southgate just seeing who would be up for taking one and then he made his decision on the first 5?
Beyond taking the responsibility to take penalties, I think England did not look like they analysed Dannarumma‘s moves. He picked his left hand side 4 times out of 5 penalties against Spain, saved Morata‘s and got close to 1. He picked his left hand side 4 times out of 5 against Italy and I think he knew Kane‘s favourite side is goalkeeper‘s right hand side. He then saved 2 penalties taken to his left hand side pretty comfortably.
Penalties are big part of tournaments, competitions and they need to be trained for, data needs to be processed not only for the goalkeepers but the takers as well.
Fascinating point - the question is, was Donna responding to the kickers' preferences, or the other way around? Should a kicker base his direction on the GK, or back himself to score regardless? No doubt Donna a top pens GK!
Fyi- a hypothesis test for proportion on 9/26 has a p value of 0.16 meaning it it not statistically significantly different than 50%. So in conclusion, you CAN NOT conclude that a recent penalty shootout win has any affect on a teams penalty shootout outcome.
Hi Ben Lyttleton why havent u posted any new articles since the start of the season

Thanks Dave! The studies were done by smarter people than me, and did not factor in that 9/26 figure.
"Now, we are in a situation where it looks like England are actually playing for penalties. Talk about a turnaround!"
Have you forgotten we played for penalties in Euro 2012?
